There are 2 basic groups of lasers and light-based systems used for treating acne. One group prevents the growth of the bacteria that is involved in acne lesions; the other shrinks the sebaceous oil glands that play an important part in acne. Laser Acne Treatment uses a wavelength specifically designed to target the acne forming oil glands. There are two types of lasers that are most used for this treatment; the Pulsed Dye Laser, which, in most cases, will show results after just one treatment without serious negative side effects, and the 1450 nm Infrared Laser. The type of laser that is used is determined by patient's skin type, type of acne, and if any scarring has already occurred.
